  7.     Soviet defector Oleg Gordievsky's KGB: The Inside Story,
  8. which was published last month and excerpted in TIME, has
  9. claimed a high-ranking victim. Latvia's Deputy Foreign Minister
  10. N.V. Neyland quietly resigned; the book charges that he was a
  11. Swedish-speaking KGB agent assigned to recruit Sweden's Prime
  12. Minister Olaf Palme. Neyland came from the same hometown as
  13. Palme's mother and apparently used his acquaintance with her to
  14. work his way toward the P.M. After gaining access to Palme,
  15. Neyland persuaded the KGB that he was responsible for some of
  16. the pro-Soviet views held by the Prime Minister, who was
  17. assassinated in 1986.
